Is there God?

People tend to start every new thing by taking the name of God.

This is my way of doing it.

But hold... I'm not gonna thank The God or like that, but in contrast, I'm gonna question His presence, His importance, His impact on my (or for that matter, anybody's) life.

To start with, let me question what exactly is God?
- Super powerful entity?
- One who is capable of fulfilling anybody's wishes?
- and so on...

That's what the picture of God was represented to me(and to most of us) since our childhood. Like, if you do bad, God will do bad with you. If you do good, God will pay you back. Just GIVE-n-TAKE! And interestingly, I started believing(!) and praising God simply out of fear of He doing bad with me. I started praying 'cos I dint want to fail in exam, or get beaten by Dad, or India lose to Pakistan, and numerous such reasons. And that's precisely what people around me (which includes you, you and yes, you too) seem to be doing. They praise the God, just to make sure that He keeps them happy, safe, prosperous, healthy. And the Almighty seems to be fulfilling wishes of those who come to his feet and messing with those who don't. That's so rational!

You don't seem to be agreeing with me, right?

Then why do you thank God for all the good things happening to you(which majorly involve your hard work)?
Why do you blame it on God if something bad happens with or around you?
Why do you think an Atheist is an idiot, over-confident, moron?
Why?

I've asked these questions to many believers and got answers like "you-will-know-it-yourself-one-day". Well.. I honestly can't comment on whether such day would ever come.

By the way, I am a believer, a self-believer. I think that's what it takes to be successful in life. I mean how can one leave his worries to someone else to take care of. It's your life. You are the only one responsible for it. It's You who should be credited for your success and You who should be blamed for the failures, not The God! Give him a break.

Whew... enough for now I guess. Will be glad to receive any responses if this rings any bells in your mind.

Cheers.

I am a self believer too. I don't believe in the conventional sense of God. For the record I have never gone to a temple on my own or prayed of my own accord. Whenever I have done any of this it is only to appease my Mom. Yes I do use the words "Thank God" very often but that I a fault of habit not belief. But, all this said, I do believe in a supreme law. I do believe that there is a bigger scheme of things. It is common knowledge that everything around us follows a law. The earth rotates by law, we have seasons by law all the energy available around us is by law. Then why do we consider our lives above all laws. There is a supreme law by which our lives our governed. A bigger picture that we cannot see coz we are too tiny a part of it. But mind you, I DO NOT mean that the final out come is independent of our actions. I am only suggesting that the final action is governed by NOT JUST our actions but certain other factors as well. Now I do not know whether this makes me a believer of The Almighty God or not, but it definitely means that I have faith.

Thanks for taking time to read and respond.
A lot of your thoughts did make sense but cant digest the "having-faith-but-not-believing-in-god" stuff. Maybe I'm not mature enough. :P

@Pravin, It's very difficult to believe in God; because the thing/power which exist or not is a mystery and you believe in that is itself is a sign that you are strong believer in God; this does not mean that you blindly believe it.

I agree with all the thoughts you have put about belief/faith about positive & negative happening with you and your feeling towards the God. This is something which is governed by law of nature. I like the comments from Neha “There is a supreme law by which our lives our governed. A bigger picture that we cannot see coz we are too tiny a part of it.” This is indeed not a comment but true.

If you are really looking for what is God or does it exist; I will like to share the sentence written by Guru Nanak which you also recite some times in movie Range de basanti
